My Relationship With Money

Money for me is like a friend that is always there for you, but really – not. It is not hard to talk about this topic for me, and I invite you to do the same.

I have always had an interest in how people use their money. At age of 5, when I had my first piggy bank, I liked to save up money to help my family when they needed a little extra sometimes. I was always very resourceful with money. So much so, that I didn’t know how to use it.

My parents split and my mother took me to UK, where we fled to avoid debt. This is when I realised that sometimes people are not that prepared financially at all, even if they got a job.

Loosing a home because of something that can be simply taught in school, motivated me to go to business school as soon as possible. I swore that this kind of mistake will never happen to me.

During college, I got my first job. And, I had many reasons to spend it rather than save it. I spent it on some very silly things. Most possibly, there was a month of pure takeaways! And at that time my spending habits were so terrible that I could spend £10 on weekly shopping, eat horribly throughout the week, have no energy to commit myself to anything and end up spending more than I earned every month!

Now, I study at the university and I love to talk about money and how we can manage, use, invest and save it. I think that too many people try to keep cool and make it seem like they have money, when in reality it is ok to not have money. What is not ok, is to complain that you’re broke and do nothing about it.

What is also not ok – is to stress out because you never seem to have any money. I know people who wouldn’t be able to sleep at night because they just ‘wasted’ majority of their money to bills. It should not control you, but rather – you should control your money.

In order to get my money under control, I’ve started to look at myself as an investor and stuff I spend my money on – as investment options.

Another thing I did to get my money under control apart from all the financial education, was to take advantage of sales and discounts appropriately.

And then, one good friend of mine explained to me the mindset of abundance and the law of attraction. The idea is, if you believe you got money for everything you need it for, more will keep coming.

And thus, my relationship with money is good for the moment.

How is your relationship with money going?

I love your way of thinking: money should not control us. Rather, we should control our money. Your ideas are so good for all age groups.
Thanks for following Oh, the Places We See. As you can tell, we budget in a way that allows us to travel, and it’s worked for several years now. Glad to have you traveling with us!

It’s good, but I never have enough. But that’s good too because it keeps me alert and striving for more. When I stop wanting then I’ll be turning up my toes, I think!

Having goals is great, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have enough. I too thought of my money management like that before, actually of my life’s management in general – it feels like once you loose that feeling of constantly not having what you’re trying to achieve, you’ll get lazy and stop pursuing it.

It is important to stress out that no one but yourself should have control over your life. When you continue allowing yourself feeling stressed and motivate yourself that way, you’re not having control over yourself. And then, how will you feel happy when you’ll achieve your goal? You’ll probably want to continue pursuing something else in order to continue being in that state. This is why there are people who don’t seem to have enough the more money they earn.

However, both of us here believe that you’re worth having enough. So, I would suggest googling what ‘scarcity mindset’ means and I’m here if you would like further help with that – https://www.tamedmoney.com/. Sorry for the long reply, hope you’re having a great day!
